CNN —There was no doubting the message from Antony Blinken’s musical debut in Kyiv on Tuesday night. The visit is the first by a Biden administration official since the long-delayed passage of US supplemental funding to the war-torn country. The bar, which has heavy metal doors and metal reinforcements along the walls, is popular with war veterans and soldiers on leave. In a personal address from the stage, Blinken said: “The United States is with you, so much of the world is with you. And they’re fighting, not just for Ukraine but for the free world – and the free world is with you too.”The venue posted about the unusual performance on its Instagram page, captioning it: “Keep on rocking on a free world!

CNN —Nottingham Forest has accused a Premier League refereeing official of being a fan of relegation rival Luton Town in an extraordinary social media post following the team’s 2-0 defeat by Everton on Sunday. “Three extremely poor decisions - three penalties not given - which we simply cannot accept,” the club wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “We warned the PGMOL [Professional Game Match Officials Limited] that the VAR is a Luton fan before the game but they didn’t change him. “The Premier League was extremely disappointed to read the comments made by Nottingham Forest on social media yesterday, following its match against Everton,” the league said in a statement on Monday. Following Young’s protest, the singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell also removed her music from Spotify, and the R&B singer India.Arie circulated clips showing Rogan using a racial slur repeatedly on the show. Rogan apologized for his use of the word, and Spotify quietly removed dozens of episodes of his show. Spotify signed Rogan to a deal in 2020, worth at least $200 million, that made his show exclusive to that platform. Last month, the company announced a new, multiyear arrangement with Rogan in which Spotify would also distribute “The Joe Rogan Experience” to other podcast platforms, as well as YouTube. In his statement on Tuesday, Young didn’t give a timeline for when his music would return to Spotify, and a representative of Spotify did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

JetBlue Airways and Spirit Airlines announced on Monday that they would walk away from their planned $3.8 billion merger after federal antitrust regulators successfully challenged the deal in court. JetBlue said it would pay Spirit $69 million to exit the deal. A federal judge in Boston blocked the proposed merger on Jan. 16, siding with the Justice Department in determining that the merger would reduce competition in the industry and give airlines more leeway to raise ticket prices. “We wish the very best going forward to the entire Spirit team.”JetBlue and Spirit appealed Judge Young’s decision. JetBlue filed an appellate brief last week arguing that the deal should be allowed to go through.

CNN —The remains of a Portland, Oregon, teenager who vanished in the late 1960s have been identified through advanced DNA testing more than 50 years after she went missing, authorities said. In 1970, a Boy Scout troop leader discovered the girl’s remains buried in a shallow grave on Sauvie Island in Oregon. Investigators at the time were unable to identify them, but noted that that trauma to the body indicated foul play, Oregon State Police announced in a news release on Thursday. Family members told authorities they believed Young went missing from Portland around the time the remains were discovered, according to the news release. “Sandra Young has now regained her identity after 54 years,” said Dr. Nici Vance of the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office.

After the check, Mr. Young began asking the agents questions, which they said they answered, and he began video recording them. The arrest affidavit said that Mr. Young and his friends had followed them and began talking to the people there. Then the agent pushed Mr. Young with two hands, and Mr. Young staggered backward and hit his back on a corner of the bar table, causing him to briefly fall, the video shows. Mr. Young then got up, raised both of his hands in the air and walked backward from the agents. Another agent tried speaking to Mr. Young, who did not comply with the orders, the affidavit said.

Ernst & Young’s global executive board is preparing to vote on a successor to Carmine Di Sibio, the global chairman and chief executive, in coming weeks. Photo: tolga akmen/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesErnst & Young is stepping up its U.S. governance overhaul efforts, a bid to give partners there a greater voice in firm strategy, following the failed separation of its audit and advisory businesses earlier this year. The proposal comes as the Big Four accounting firm continues to work to untangle the mess left by its decision in April to scrap plans to split auditing and consulting into two different firms. EY spent $600 million and more than a year working on the split.

Young was best known for his role as Rocky Balboa’s brother-in-law Paulie in the “Rocky” movie franchise. Sylvester Stallone, who starred as Rocky, paid tribute to Young on Wednesday. “I was on the MGM lot when Sly Stallone came over and introduced himself to me, told me he wrote ‘Rocky’ and said ‘you gotta do it,’” Young recalled. It is the second serious injury Dobbins has suffered in his short NFL career after he tore his ACL, ruling him out of the 2021 season entirely. The police in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, released body-camera footage on Friday of an officer fatally shooting a pregnant Black woman through the windshield of her car in the parking lot of a supermarket last week. The shooting of the woman, Ta’Kiya Young, 21, led to protests and an investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation into the use of deadly force by the police in Blendon Township, a town of approximately 10,000 northeast of Columbus. The Columbus branch of the N.A.A.C.P. has called for the officer, who, video shows, opened fire as Mr. Young drove forward, to be fired. Ms. Young’s family said in a statement on Friday that the body-camera footage shows that her death was “not only avoidable, but also a gross misuse of power and authority.”

Yet the award for the major’s most remarkable shot has almost surely already been wrapped up by Cameron Young. With an effort golfing trickshotters could only dream of, the American golfer somehow managed to land a ball in the golf ball holder of a golf cart more than 300 yards away. At the center of a swarm of spectators, stewards, and security was a golf cart, and settled snugly in a compartment at the front-right of that cart: his ball. After a brief discussion with rules officials and – under orders from Young’s caddie Paul Tesori – a quick picture of the ball, the world No. Earlier frustrations soon resumed as Young’s subsequent approach shot went skidding over the green, but he recovered well to make par.

It was one the president deployed once again behind closed doors at the White House. With Memorial Day on the horizon, senior White House officials said protecting veterans’ benefits was a top priority. They also knew it was a sensitive issue for Republicans’ politically, especially as House Republicans parried White House allegations about cuts to veterans’ services. White House officials would engage in conversations where their Republican counterparts would outline a potential resolution on issues. For months, White House officials hoped – and to some degree based on past battles, expected – Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell would engage in finding a resolution.

It was a far cry from just two years ago, when Young was the up-and-coming N.B.A. darling who unexpectedly led the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals after the team had missed the postseason three years in a row. This time, Young gave the Celtics fits — averaging 29.2 points and 10.2 assists over the series — but Boston dumped Young’s Hawks from the playoffs in six games. Now Young, who just finished his fifth season, is facing an existential challenge more daunting than any one playoff round: the Narrative. And how is he continuously taking his game 1 percent better, 2 percent better over time?
Carmine Di Sibio, global leader of Ernst & Young, faces opposition to his plan for splitting the firm’s consulting and auditing businesses. The fate of Ernst & Young’s proposed split may be determined in Silicon Valley this week when feuding executives meet to hash out a deal that is acceptable to all factions. One of those powerful factions won’t be represented at the meeting and doesn’t even work for the global auditing firm. Yet some of EY’s retired partners are playing a key role in trying to block the deal.

Divisions between Ernst & Young’s leaders are threatening to scuttle a planned breakup of the global accounting firm. Ernst & Young ’s renegade U.S. auditors are demanding that the firm examine the financial health of its potential offspring as they block a breakup of the global accounting firm. Julie Boland , EY’s U.S. chair and managing partner, called for rethinking the split, which has been in the works for more than a year. The U.S. audit partners want a bigger piece of the firm’s lucrative tax business.

A proposed public sale of a 15% stake in the consulting company, raising about $11 billion, is scheduled for later this year. “I do see potential [further] delays because the deal is complicated,” Mr. Di Sibio said. Mr. Di Sibio is due to head the new consulting company, which needs everything from a new brand to an auditor. PREVIEWEY is hiring rival accounting firm BDO to check the books of the planned public consulting company, Mr. Di Sibio said. So the new EY consulting company name will have to be a made-up word, or a combination of two or three words, he added.
Ernst & Young is considering private debt and a possible delay in the planned sale of its consulting arm. Ernst & Young’s leaders are looking at backup plans for the firm’s split to address rising funding costs and a potential slowdown in growth that could imperil the rich payouts promised to partners, according to people familiar with the matter. Leaders of the accounting powerhouse are talking to private-equity firms as they draw up plans for the sale of EY’s consulting arm, the people familiar with the matter said. Options include using private debt, which would involve private-equity funds in an initial public offering, or delaying the effort beyond the current target at the end of 2023, the people said.

The proposed breakup of EY into a steady firm focused on auditing companies and a faster-growing consulting business has reached the nitty-gritty phase after its top executives approved the split.
